Das Wochenende 2007

Das Wochenende ("The Weekend") is a sign that illuminates from Friday afternoon through Sunday night. Equipped with a radio clock that receives a precise date and time signal from the Frankfurt-based DCF77 time code transmitter, the installation serves as a visual prompt when it's the weekend, providing a substitute to absent markers of temporal structure such as chiming church bells and quiet streets. Commissioned by and installed at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart. Aluminum, auto body paint, fluorescent and led lights, printed film, speaker, radio clock receiver, custom electronics. A collaboration with Shona Kitchen and Ryan Aipperspach, with thanks to Allison Woodruff.
